January 2019 Check-Outs

February 1, 2019February 1, 2019Leave a comment

Every month, I make a list of the things I checked out from the library. It's my little protest against those who think libraries don't matter anymore. Audiobooks You're Never Weird on the Internet (Almost) by Felicia Day I love memoirs that are read by the author. I picked this book up last year and … Continue reading January 2019 Check-Outs

Booklist: Couples in History

January 12, 2019January 12, 2019Leave a comment

As a married woman who is no longer in her early twenties, I am slowly becoming disillusioned with the couples in romance novels. I am more interested in the couples that stand the test of time and support each other through thick and thin. I found myself tearing up when reading about Ruth and Marty's … Continue reading Booklist: Couples in History

Notorious RBG: The Life and Times of Ruth Bader Ginsburg by Irin Carmon and Shana Knizhnik Audiobook narrated by Andi Arndt I checked out the audiobook and the print book. The audiobook is enjoyable, but I recommend the print book because of the supplemental images and the annotations to RBG's court opinions. Nevertheless, We Persisted: … Continue reading What I Checked Out in December

The Sioux Chef's Indigenous Kitchen by Sean Sherman and Beth Dooley has some amazing and authentic recipes that I used to make our Thanksgiving dinner this year. I highly recommend looking into tribes that are indigenous to your area and learning about their cuisine. It was a much healthier alternative to a traditional Thanksgiving meal. … Continue reading What I Checked Out in November

I'm finishing my graduate coursework in December, so October has been a busy month. I checked out a few things that I have not been able to start yet, so I will save those for next month. After You by Jojo Moyes is the sequel to Me Before You. It's a very honest portrayal of … Continue reading What I Checked Out in October

I checked out Her Body and Other Parties by Carmen Maria Machado on audiobook, which is narrated by Amy Landon. I really enjoyed the first few stories, but some of the later stories were disorienting. I checked out the book to see if that was easier to read, and it was, but the book is … Continue reading What I Checked Out in September

The Handmaid's Tale audiobook by Margaret Atwood is narrated by Claire Danes. I requested it after noticing that a patron at my library had requested it. Claire Danes is a wonderful narrator and the book is beautifully written. The Woman in the Window audiobook by A.J. Finn is narrated by Ann Marie Lee. The narration is … Continue reading What I Checked Out in July

Wi-Fi Hotspots

July 17, 2018July 18, 2018Leave a comment

I was first introduced to hotspots in 2015 when I was working in a small rural library outside of Las Vegas, NV. The library district was working on renovating all eleven of the rural branches. Before we could renovate, the director that oversaw the rural libraries had everyone go through every crevice and throw out … Continue reading Wi-Fi Hotspots
